Pandas have lived on Earth for at least 8 million years. They are known as "living fossils" and "Chinese national treasures". They are also ambassadors of the World Wildlife Fund and flagship species for biodiversity conservation worldwide.
The Chengdu Research Base of Panda Breeding was established in 1987. Initially, there were only 6 sick, old, and disabled pandas. After years of effort, it has now developed into a captive population of 244 pandas and over 160 red pandas. In terms of scientific research, the base has overcome key technical challenges such as artificial breeding, reproduction and rearing, disease prevention and control, and population genetic management of pandas through innovative scientific research work, and has achieved multiple original scientific research results.
